Developing Essential Energy, Digital and Innovation Infrastructure for Growing
Communities

For more than 20 years, Castle Group has worked in Western Sydney – shaping places where people live, work and build their future. That experience has reinforced a simple truth: strong communities depend on reliable infrastructure that supports everyday life.

Electricity, digital networks and modern work environments underpin homes, schools, hospitals, emergency services, businesses and local jobs. Much of this infrastructure operates quietly in the background, but as cities grow, its importance becomes increasingly visible.

Castle Group’s infrastructure work builds on decades of experience in careful planning, long-term thinking and early engagement. Our focus is on supporting essential energy and digital infrastructure in ways that are responsible, transparent and subject to independent assessment and regulatory oversight.

Castle Group has secured 1.5GW of strategically located, powered land across Sydney, Australia for Data Centres, alongside a further 2GW utility-scale BESS projects.

Combined with Data Centres, Castle Group is uniquely positioned to deliver valuable infrastructure for Sydney and Australia’s digital economy.

Our Current Projects

Regentville BESS
Pre-planning stage
Up to 900MW / 4 hour storage

Castle Group is proposing to construct and operate a Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) near Regentville in Western Sydney, NSW. The project site is located 5km south of Penrith CBD, near the existing Transgrid 330kV Substation, providing a connection point to the National Electricity Market (NEM) that would avoid the need for new transmission lines and significant infrastructure upgrades, minimising environmental and social impacts associated with new transmission corridors.

The BESS is expected to have a capacity of up to 900 MW with a 4-hour storage duration – this is equivalent to powering around 930,000* homes for four hours.

Features Description
Up to 900 MW Installed capacity
4 hours Storage duration
Network Connection Regentville Substation
Growth-enabling location Aligned with Western Sydney Growth Corridor
5km South of Penrith CBD
Up to 150 Full-time jobs at peak construction, prioritising Western Sydney job seekers and contractors where possible

Planning Process

We are at the early stages of planning, and will conduct detailed technical investigations, environmental assessments and community engagement before any planning outcome is determined. The project is proposed to be assessed through a coordinated NSW Government process, which brings together inputs from Council, key government agencies and the community.

Castle Group is committed to early and transparent engagement with local and Indigenous community members and businesses throughout the planning process.

Project Design
Castle Group has a track record for high quality standards, and this extends to design of our energy infrastructure projects. The Regentville BESS is expected to incorporate the latest battery technology designed to reduce noise and meet all Australian fire safety standards. The final layout of the project will be available based on the outcomes of early site investigations, community and stakeholder consultation, technology design and engineering assessments.

The Regentville BESS would include the following key components:

-Battery units

-Inverter stations

-Transformers

-Switch rooms

-Switch yard

-On-site water storage

-Fire suppressions systems

-Security fencing

-Internal Roads and parking

-Site office and amenities for operational use

During construction, temporary infrastructure including construction facilities, site offices and amenities, tool and material storage sheds, construction staff car parking, component laydown areas and truck parking and unloading may also be required.

Local and Indigenous Community Engagement

Building on community trust and shared value established through our social responsibility initiatives through the Perera Foundation, we will continue to develop relationships with local and Indigenous communities and businesses in the Western Sydney region to create enduring and positive impact.

Castle Group is in the early stages of developing a community benefit sharing framework. We encourage local community members and groups to reach out to us to share the social and economic outcomes you value. Use the contact details on this page to get in touch.

Jobs and business

If the Regentville BESS project is approved, we will deliver on commitments that include:

-Prioritise the participation of small businesses based in Western Sydney to deliver goods and services

-Supporting First Nations participation through areas such as contracting, employment, training and business innovation

-Implement social procurement processes that encourage circular economy outcomes for Western Sydney

-Commitment to using local content for construction materials from Australia or New Zealand, where practical
