5 Ways to Use Mirrors to Create More Space
Mirrors are functional and versatile décor items which not only decorate a room but make it look larger. Placing a mirror in a room will bounce more light back into the space, making it feel bigger and brighter. With so many sizes, shapes and frames to choose from, it is easy to take the humble mirror from a functional wall hanging to a show-stopping statement piece.

1. Grouped Together
Large mirrors can be quite expensive. Instead, arrange small dollar store mirrors together and paint the frames the same colour for a cohesive look. If you are after a quirkier look, use mirrors of different colours, shapes and styles from op-shops.

2. Splashback
The area behind your stove can be quite dark, so brighten it up by using a mirror as your splashback. It is easy to clean and will add a unique touch to your kitchen. A mirror will not only brighten up your stove area, but it will also make it easier to see what you’re cooking. If this idea sounds like too much, consider getting a tiled splashback that uses pieces of mirror glass amongst the pattern.

3. Window Illusion
By placing a mirror across from a window, you will not bring in more light but more outdoor views. The reflection will maximise natural light while creating the illusion of there being another window. Plus, it will allow you to enjoy the view from the other side of the room. This trick also works in the backyard. By hanging a window on your back fence and cleverly disguising it with plants, you can make a small backyard seem endless.

4. Rotated
Hanging long, narrow mirrors on their side will help to make a wall look longer, if you’re willing to sacrifice a full-length view of your outfit. A smaller mirror hung horizontally will work especially well in narrow hallways or in staircases, making the space feel wider.

5. Behind a Light
Placing a mirror behind a light source will enable the light to reach further, brightening the space and making it feel larger. You can achieve this by placing a mirror behind a table lamp, pendant light, or even a candle.
